Sivananda style class is class suitable for beginners. My teacher was trained by Swami Vishnu-devananda, she has passed on to me the postures of the Sivananda tradition, this is still Hatha Yoga. The 12 basic poses (asana) all of which are taught in my hatha yoga classes are here taught in the same order each week. Yoga is more than just stretching. Energy centres open, flexibility of the spine increases, strengthening bones and stimulating the circulatory and immune system.
An open level class suitable for beginners will include: Pranayama, (breathing exercises) Sun Salutations prepare the body for the 12 basic asanas (postures) finishing with Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) The asanas follow the same order, systematically moving every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy. Variations of the postures may be taught. You leave feeling energised yet relaxed!
